Looking forward to Friday . . . at 5:00

This week has been so very draining. Every morning, I woke up determined to keep out of the churning dynamics of the office. But, some days, it's like a whirlpool. It pulls you down into it and you have to wait until the next day to try to keep your head above water again.

This morning, I was late because I was driving down Derry street and my window just fogged up. Then, I did a dumb thing and turned on my windshield wipers. They sprayed water, and the water froze to the glass. I couldn't see a thing!! All my windows were fogged, and the defroster was not working fast enough. In fact, it didn't seem to be working at all. So, I had to pull over until things were clear enough to continue.

Despite the rough start to my morning, I found a very thoughtful gift from a coworker on my desk. We are trying to get in shape and are keeping one another accountable to our goals. The gift was a scented candle with a card to remind me I was doing well and encouraging me to keep up the good work! It really helped to calm my frazzled nerves. I thought, "Okay, I can do this."

I am most dreading a presentation we are making this morning. I hate presentations. I was told to go and sit and "look pretty," maybe answer a few questions (which really irritated me, because it's my project). It would be ridiculous for me to just sit there through the entire presentation and let other people on my team field all the questions. But, I also don't care about the presentation (probably because I am ultimately in the wrong line of work -- I don't care for Marketing), and when I don't care, I can't think of anything worth saying, even for my "token remark." So, maybe I will just sit and "look pretty." It doesn't seem to matter what I do some days -- some people will never take me seriously! If after four years, I'm still told to "look pretty" . . . of course, a man told me that -- my biggest obstacle remains his enormous head filled with chauvenist ideas.

Just wondering if things will ever change!

Oh, I see how it is... when someone is mean to you, you'll dedicate a whole post to them, but when someone does something nice, they get a small paragraph...not to mention the nice ones get referred to as "a co-worker" while the mean ones get their names mentioned numerous times! Women.
